Biochemistry Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (BSURF) Program
Summer 2009
Our eight-week Biochemistry Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (BSURF) Program provides students with hands-on experience in an active research laboratory under the direction of an established scientist. The research involves planning and performing experiments to answer questions of interest in contemporary biochemistry. In the final week of the program, a symposium is held at which students will give a short report on their project. Although there are no prerequisite courses for acceptance into the program, it is clearly advantageous to have a good knowledge of organic chemistry and biology to appreciate the research goals. Priority will be given to students entering their senior year.
In addition to conducting research work in the laboratory, students will attend weekly seminars with presentations by excellent research scientists. Because the seminars are in a small group format, there are opportunities to ask questions and interact directly with the speakers. Social gatherings are planned as well to encourage interaction among the summer students, their lab colleagues, and mentors.
The 2009 Summer Program will run from Monday, June 8, through Friday, July 31, 2009. Admitted students will receive a stipend of $3,200 and housing will be provided, location to be announced.
