Department of Biochemistry
Faculty Research
The Department of Biochemistry currently consists of 19 faculty members (with 3 holding joint appointments in clinical departments). The faculty supervise active research programs in the general research areas of biochemistry, molecular biology, biophysics, and cell biology that are well supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and other funding organizations. Total research funding for the Biochemistry Department exceeds $3.5 million per year. In addition, the Department participates in several NIH-supported training grants of an interdisciplinary nature at the pre- and postdoctoral levels.
